"I've known rivers:
I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
flow of human blood in human veins.
My soul has grown deep like the rivers.
I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young.
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln
went down to New Orleans, and I've seen its muddy
bosom turn all golden in the sunset.
I've known rivers:
Ancient, dusky rivers.
My soul has grown deep like the rivers."
--Langston Hughes
With the tragedies that go on these days like the recent news of the killings at Virginia Tech, it makes you more appreciative of all the good things you have to be thankful for from god.
Family is very important and it is important to realize that people can do strange things to each other, and so cherish what time you have and allow your soul to grow and love because you never know when the rivers may all dry up.
Anyway, I was just looking for an excuse to post a Langston Hughes poem, so hope you like it. Thinking of bringing back the poetry portion of the site which is why I created lifeafterconception.com so many years back and never kept it going. With your help, maybe we can keep the creative juices going to conceive more words that will live on in infamy.
Salaam,
Kevin
